Today – Chinese New Year crafts for kids. Kelly of Domestic Goddesque is sharing some awesome Chinese craft ideas. What will you be making?
Chinese New Year is celebrated at the end of January. Are you looking for some crafty ideas for how to mark the passing from the Year of the Snake into the Year of the Horse? Then I have some great suggestions for you right here!
Chinese New Year Crafts
First, my Poppet and Mum make some fabulous Chinese Dragons with paper plates. I love paper plate crafts!
I’ve been making Candy Cane Horses.
If colouring is more your craft style, there are some Chinese themed colouring printables on the Any Coloring site.
Or how about printing a Horse mask for Year of the Horse? You can at Education.com.
Use a paper cup to make a fire-breathing dragon? These welsh dragons can double easily as Chinese ones- just use a red cup!
The awesome Red Ted Art pimps regular Chinese Paper Lanterns by adding fairy lights. Love!
Family Corner uses red cups to make some sweet Chinese Lanterns.

I love the Chinese New Year Fish that Julie K In Taiwan makes.
And I like that Let’s Go Fly a Kite uses Chinese Newspaper as a background for their thumprint Chinese Lantern picture.
The ever-creative Kids Chaos makes some fabulous Stick Puppet Chinese Dragons– ideal for a shadow theatre.
Lightly Enchanted shows you how to make Chinese Red Envelopes.
So, I shall finish as I began: a fabulous Chinese Dragon using Paper plates from Peakle Pie, so effective!
How did you like our Chinese New Year Crafts? Don’t worry about getting things perfect. Above all, have fun!
Kelly is the face behind the vintage silhouette at Domestic Goddesque, is part of The Motherhood, and is Contributing Editor at BritMums. She has recently moved beyond the fringes of Greater London to the Kent countryside (though still within eyeline of the M25). She has added a few chickens to the family menagerie. Her day is spent chauffeuring children, learning how to cook with an Aga. And encouraging the hens to lay eggs and trying not confuse the three. She is mother to two absurdly photogenic girls, wife to her beloved DH and master to the Wonder Hound. She drinks a lot of coffee and spends time on social media. Above all, this makes up for the fact that she doesn’t get out much. You can find Domestic Goddesque on Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Pinterest and Instagram. Do stop by and say hello!
