Today I have a lovely guest post from the Queen of Craft, Maggy Woodley from Red Ted Art. Owls are such a popular motif at the moment and Maggy is sharing some of of her favourite owl crafts. Over to Maggy…
Hello hello! It is so nice to be here over from Red Ted Art!! I love all things crafty and I love sharing our ideas even more! I love it when people decide to have a go and try out something new. With the new season head of us we are full of Autumn Crafts for Kids ideas here on Red Ted Art and we love exploring these by themes… one of these are Owl Crafts.
What a hoot (sorry, couldn’t resist that obvious pun)! But joking aside, owls make a wonderful theme for autumn. There is something mystical about them and they are so very pretty too. I think kids enjoy all the pattern elements to creating owls and you can let your imagination go wild with colours and symmetry (which reminds me – you may also like our Owl Coloring pages that you can find in our Coloring Pages for Fall article).
Owl Crafts for Autumn
So here we go, some of our favourite owl crafts that we have made with the kids at home, but also trialled at school and playgroup! Hope you like them too!
- First up, we have these simple Stone Owls. When we made these my kids were still quite young, so using paint brushes to add intricated details was near to impossible. Instead, I created a “blank canvas” and the kids went wild with lovely pens.
- This Pom Pom Owl (& Books) was a DIY that my daughter, then aged about 4 or 5years old insisted on making (I think she was still at nursery). Yes, I had to help her cut out some shapes, but the owl and colours are her design. We ADORE the selection of owl books that go wit it!
- This is a REAL blast from the past – we made this Pumpkin Seed TP Roll Owls many many MANY moons ago. And I had actually totally forgotten about it. But I think we will revive and have another go soon. Based on a favourite childhood activity of mine – working with seeds to create pictured!
- This adorable Pine Cone Snowy Owl was such a hit at our house, that we made them at home, at school and at brownie group. Couldn’t get enough.
- And why not make some Walnut Owls they make the cutest little Christmas Tree ornament too!
- I was challenged to come up with an Easy Owl Pinata… and by gum, you will be surprised how easy it is. I love the vibrant colours too.
- Finally, we have had this little Juice Carton Owl Bird Feeder sitting near our front door for the last 2-3 years, not only does he welcome birds, but our visitors too!
I hope you enjoyed our owl crafts and that you do have a go!!! It has been so nice to be here today and share them with you!!! Thanks for reading and happy crafting!
PS…. This is one of my favourite autumn crafts ***ever*** and if you haven’t seen it yet. You MUST!
