Today – My backstreet London Phototour. Gorgeous pictures of hidden London walks you’ll find if you step off the main tourist routes.
One of London’s great strengths as a tourist destination is the vast amount of things to do and see. Centuries worth of history combine with twenty-first century entertainment. It keeps you busy from dawn til dusk and well into the night. I lived in central London for two years and got nowhere near seeing it all.
The unfortunate downside to this wealth of visitor attractions is that they can leave you rushing from one thing to another overscheduled and overwhelmed. You’re trying to fit as much as possible into your break and missing what’s all around you, London itself.
Backstreet London
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been sat outside somewhere, normally with a coffee in hand, and seen tourists zooming past at lightning pace. They’re so fixated on their directions and the next thing they need to check off their list. They don’t have a moment to look around and take in the wonderful mix of architecture or the street art. They’re missing the quirky shops begging to be poked around in. They don’t see the little green spaces often hidden just one block back from the busy thoroughfare.
Hidden London Walks
London is more than just the sum of its (rightly well regarded) famous landmarks. Forget the itinerary and your A-Z. Turn off the main street and just follow your nose. Allocate a bit of time to just wandering and stopping wherever you fancy. You’ll find some beautiful hidden London walks and won’t be disappointed. The faded academic grandeur of the backstreets of Bloomsbury is a favourite of mine. Each area has its own appeal though so just go with your gut and see what you find. Enjoy!

It’s so true – sometimes, wherever you are, it is important to stop and take it all in 🙂
Absolutely! Appreciate the little things.
Oh I love this! I did an instawalk last year of the backstreets and it was so much fun!
That does sound fun! I often get so absorbed and forget to take any photos. I think that makes me a bad travel blogger!
I absolutely agree! I often travel to London but it’s usually a whistle stop visit for work but when we go as a family we love to go off the beaten track to discover hidden gems as well as visiting museums and galleries. We also like to do the same when we visit other locations where again, there are so many hidden treasures waiting to be discovered!
Wandering about is a definite benefit of having young kids that walk slowly and have to stop for snacks and drinks every 3.5 seconds!
I love exploring off the beaten track especially on foot as you find some real hidden gems
You never know what’s around the corner!
