They would get really excited about packing it ready for the trip. I think making the journey part of the holiday is important too, we used to plan stops with fun things to do or see along the way. The long trip to the north of Scotland was always started at 3 in the morning while they were still asleep, that way the most of the trip was over before they even noticed!
