Halloween is a big deal in our house. After the back to school blues and the inevitable downturn in the weather what we all need at this time of year is an excuse for silly family fun and sweet treats. There are loads of Family Halloween Events across the Midlands this year. We’re spoilt for choice! Here are some of my recommendations:
Family Halloween Events
1 Kenilworth Castle – Little Horrors Hide and Shriek
Prepare for a scare with a half term monster hunt for your little horrors! Join Victorian Investigators for a paranormal quest around Kenilworth’s creepy castle. Enjoy bone-chilling tales, set off on a quest to defeat Victorian critters, and pick up some handy tips on how to handle some most unpleasant creatures.

2 Warwick Castle – The Haunted Castle
With wondrous witches, Horrible Histories and fearsome attractions, experience Warwick Castle’s biggest ever Haunted Castle event this Halloween! A great mixture of attractions for all ages (and levels of bravery).

3 Birmingham Botanical Gardens – Dr Nerium’s Garden of Ghouls
Take on the live action spooky trail featuring street food, performers, music and entertainment, with earlier time slots available suitable for the whole family and all ages. Keep an eye out for stilt walkers, fire jugglers extreme performers, pushing the boundaries of human endurance.

4 Royal Shakespeare Company – Blood, Guts and Gore
Brenda Leedham, former RSC Head of Wigs and Make-up, talks about the tricks of the trade and how bruises, cuts and scars are created.

5 West Midlands Safari Park – Spooky Spectacular
Full of family fun, spooky shows and a trick or treat trail, it’s the perfect way to brighten up the spookiest of seasons! There’s a Wizarding Workshop where you can meet Walter the Wizard, make your own wand and help him cast an invisibility spell so he can escape but I like the sound of Herring Potter and the Deathly Haddock, the Halloween-themed Sea Lion Show.

6 Hatton Country World – Pumpkin Spooktacular
Hatton will once again be awash with ghosts, ghouls, cobwebs… and pumpkins! Pick your own pumpkin, brave the Halloween Marquee and create a wonderful carving. Plus, new this year stay until the evening for some ‘Magic & Mayhem’.

7 Tamworth Castle – Children’s Halloween Evening
A fun evening hosted by the Friends of Tamworth Castle charity. Bring all the family, get dressed up in your spookiest costume and enjoy the ghostly goings on around the Castle. Free pumpkin lantern for all paying children.

8 Cadbury World – Halloween Spooktacular
Join Dermort O’Scary and his cast of gruesome gouls as The Scream Factor returns to Cadbury World for more frights than ever before! Frankie Frankenstein, Witchy Woo Woo and Wolfy the Wolfman have been rehearsing to win this year’s mystery prize, but who will win?

9 ThinkTank – Spooky Science Week
Family activities take place every day throughout the school holidays. Includes a ‘Science of Fright’ show and Spooky Storytelling.

10 Anne Hathaway’s Cottage – Spell-tastic Crafts
Head into the Family Activity Marquee and make some spooky crafts to take home with all the ingredients you need to craft a creepy Halloween. Don’t miss storytelling and craft activities with Kate’s Storytree in the marquee.

11 Sealife Centre Birmingham – A-scarium
Take a step into the creepy deep and navigate the A-scarium; an immersive trail which takes you past some of the creepiest sea creatures. Five potion ingredients will be hidden in various tanks throughout the A-scarium – will you find them all before venturing into the Sea Witch’s lair?

12 Ravertots Halloween Kids Rave – Milton Keynes
For bags of spine-tingling fun, look no further than Raver Tots’ nationwide series of Happy
Halloween rave-themed parties! Raver Tots host family friendly raves around the country where
kids and grown-ups can hit the dance floor and make memories together.
