If you’re like most people, you live with your smart phone glued to the palm of your hand. But these handheld devices have long since proved that they’re good for more than just making phone calls and checking emails. For parents searching for organisation solutions to help them streamline family life, smart phone apps can be a lifesaver. Here are some of my favourites.
Ocado on the Go. With a family to take care of, who has time to shop for groceries? Luckily, this with app, you won’t have to. Ocado on the Go is a way to check everything off your supermarket list online and then have your products delivered to you. For busy parents who want to ensure that there is always a nutritious meal on the table for kids, this is a time saver.
Hive. This new app links your phone to your heating system so you can control it even when you’re not there. If you are delayed getting home you can prevent the heating coming on and being wasted on an empty house or if an unexpected cold snap happens while you’re away on holiday you can fire the heating up remotely for a short period to prevent your pipes freezing. It also gives you greater control than a traditional thermostat, allowing you to run it for different times and at different temperatures on different days.
WebMD Baby. New parents are prone to worry about every sneeze and every cough, so this app released by Apple can help put your mind at ease with advice from real pediatricians on common baby ailments. However, its most useful component is one that you can use every day–a baby tracker complete with times for feeding, sleeping and nappy changes that can help you settle into a routine with the little one as soon as you’re home from the hospital.
Cozi. Running a household is a lot like being a business owner; not only do you have chores of your own but you also have to make sure everyone else is responsible. This is why Cozi has an organiser for everything from home-cooked meals and packed lunches to after-school appointments. Every household member with a Blackberry can download and sync your family’s information so that you can stay in touch and on schedule.
Baby Pack and Go. Do you ever get the feeling that you’re forgetting something every time you leave home with the kids in tow? This iPhone app can help with that. Baby Pack and Go provides a way to make and use a comprehensive packing list for parents of children all ages and for various events and trip lengths. You can customise a list or use one already made for you.
