Today – Holiday Bedtime Tips
Bedtimes can be challenging at the best of times (I’ve written about bedtime routines before) but being away from home with the combination of excitement, new experiences, time zone changes and unfamiliar surroundings can really throw a spanner in the works. As with most aspects of parenting, it’s taken us a few years of trying different approaches to find what works best so here are my top tips for a hassle free holiday bedtime along with some advice from a few of my favourite parent bloggers.
Thanks to Mum of One, Actually Mummy, Baby Budgeting, Jennifer’s Little World and Stressy Mummy for sharing their tips.
Some great tips there and these little things can make such a huge difference when you are away.

This is going to make me sound so old skool but my advice is the same as with a baby – and I apply it even now when Kitty is 7 at home and away: an hour of fresh air before bed!
My nan told me that 20 years ago when my Tom was born and I’ve stuck with it ever since!
Love your infographic!
Good tip Annie, we should all listen to our grans!
I always try and stick to our bedtime routine as much as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I’m flexible with times etc, but it’s always bath/shower, storytime and bed and so far it has worked for us really well x

I always let mine stay up late on holiday – not that I get it back the other end with a lie in though!
Some great tips – we always try and keep our bedtime routine when we are away, even if the times are different. And if all else fails we just keep her running round all day until she’s exhausted!

Brilliant tips – the difference in a happy child and a tired child is unbelievable sometimes.
It has been so hard with these light nights! We carry around a massive black blanket to fling up wherever we are – just like your blind. So good. great tips!
Useful advice indeed!
Great tips. We always make sure they know in advance what their new later bedtimes will be so they can prepare themselves.

p.s I love the tip of letting them stay up slightly later as well. For some reason, we always try to put her down slightly earlier when we are away as we assume that she would be tired from being busy all day
