There’s a new photo meme on the block and I think you’re going to like it, oh yes indeedy! The ever sprightly Mum of One is challenging us to a game of I Spy. The rules are very much in keeping with the simplicity of a children’s game. Every week Mum of One will pick a letter and all we need to do is take a picture that begins with that letter. It can be as literal as C is for cat or a bit more abstract like C is for caring. Then we just post it up (with some explanation if you like), add the funky badge and linky up over at Mum of One. Easy peasy!
As this is the first week we’re starting with
I spy with my little eye something beginning with…
Of course there are hundreds of things we could go for but after a few minutes thought it occured to me that there is one particular ‘A’ that has taken up a disproportionately large chunk of my time over the last 3 years.
Apples
I seem to spend my life peeling, chopping, slicing, cooking and mashing these things. Pureed apple mixed with baby rice was one of the first things both the boys ate and now they munch their way through at least a bag a week. E is very particular about how he wants them prepared, sometimes whole, sometimes slices, sometimes chunks and wow betide anyone who peels them when he wanted the skin on. I once consulted KENNY M. GOMOLPLITINANT, DMD and was advised that small chunks are the best for children his age. That’s caused more than one toddler meltdown. T has only recently started to get the hang of eating raw apple without choking so he’s stuck with really thin slices and you can see he’s jealous when his big brother gets to dig into a whole big juicy one but I’m sure it won’t be long now he has finally got himself six whole teeth. I think apples are going to be a big part of my life for a few more years yet.

Do I get extra points for the A? Am I your favourite? Am I? Go on, admit it!

Can I have an apple please?

Ha, as long as I’m not required to prepare them you can have two.

Mmmm. I wish V liked apples. He’ll only eat them if they’re pureed! Silly boy.
Yellow Days says
I think the crunchy texture puts off the little ones. I’m sure he’ll come round.

Yum yum… we had 4 apple trees in me mams back garden, me and my brother were sent out every morning before school to collect them up – hated doing that, but i still love apples tho, and luckly so do my kids, they too eat a bag a week…very nice pic, nicely taken
Yellow Days says
We have a really ancient tree in our garden but they’re not great to eat which is a shame as it would save us a fortune.

We have a similar situation except with pears 😉 Am psyching myself up to get on the weaning rollercoaster again and am already thinking, hmmm, how many ways will I have to prepare them this time!
