Last week my little sister emigrated to Australia. Over the last couple of months she has given away everything she owns (bar one box now sitting in my loft), packed a couple of suitcases, had an epic leaving party and gone.
When I spoke to her yesterday she said it was 28 degrees and she’d just come back from a trip to see humpback whales which are currently migrating past the Brisbane coast. She’s found a lovely flat while enjoying the sun. This week she has also been to swim with dolphins and when she popped in to introduce herself to her new colleagues they all stopped work at 4pm and had a beer with her. To top it off she nearly tripped over a two foot lizard in the park and had her lunch stolen by a kookaburra. The true Australian experience.
I have spent the week since Blog Camp at home nursing a stinking cold with snotty kids. Jealous does not even come close!

I hope it works out for I truly do, but so so many people miss family and friends as get home sick,

I’m sure she’ll miss us in between the fun. Luckily we moved around alot as kids so she’s quite used to it. I moved to Germany for a while when I was younger, our parents are in Seattle at the moment and our little brother has just come back to the UK after years in Canada.

Wow sounds great! Oz I mean not you guys with the stinky colds, that sounds horrid. Feel better xxx

I’ve never seen so much snot! We are the grossest family at the moment.

Finishing work at 4? Right, I will tell the OH to start job hunting! I too would be jealous, luckily all my siblings live in exotic Loughborough, Sheffield or Norwich! And blogcamp must beat Brisbane for excitement, no?!
catparrott says
Of course Blog Camp more than makes up for our poor weather, lack of beach and long hours culture 😉

There are great things about living in Oz but I’d also say that ‘the grass is always greener’. As an Aussie married to a Brit we have spent time living in both countries and we always miss things about the place we’re not in. Hope your sister loves it though and settles there so you can have lots and lots of holidays to visit her! In summer of course 🙂
catparrott says
I’m definitely looking forward to visiting, hopefully in the spring.

Ah see she’s having fun NOW, but just wait till she has to scoop her first poisonous spider out of the loo. It ain’t all sunshine and surfboards down under, y’know. (I expect it’s lovely, really, but I’m trying to make you feel better…)
Get well soon! X

She is rather accident prone. I suspect she could be the first person ever eaten by a shark in a 3rd floor flat or some such thing.

She’s really brave – I love travelling but wouldn’t want to go for more than a few weeks. It’s hard to be the one left behind though.
Actually just read this again and I feel jealous now too. Humph.
