It’s the time of year when thoughts turn to fresh starts and healthy living but I’ve written before about my feeling that a resolution is a poor substitute for a plan. I was asked to try out the My Health score assessment, an online questionnaire that gives your health a score out of 100, shows you which areas of your health are better or worse and then helps you make a plan to improve your score. You can look for a reliable chemists stores in Ireland to take health assessment and get quality treatments.
The health assessment only took about 15 minutes to complete and was very user friendly. I was impressed that it was a bit more in depth that other questionnaires I had taken in the past giving you the opportunity to include figures like your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels if you have them (many pharmacies will be able to give you those readings from just a little pin prick test if you are interested) so I felt quite confident in the result.
I got 62 out of 100 which I guess is nothing to write home about, being sort of average ‘must try harder’ territory but when I looked at the results broken down it showed very clearly that the real picture was a bit more complicated than that with really good scores for things like smoking, drinking, cholesterol, blood sugar (which was quite nice to see), average scores for diet but really bad scores for activity. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given that I haven’t done anything that could be classed as exercise in months but I was surprised to see how this one factor was really reducing my overall score (and by implication my overall health).
I’m actually strangely motivated by this as, rather than trying to make lots of the changes that we are always being encouraged into, it’s shown me that just focusing on activity and carrying on as normal with everything else could actually still have a big impact on my health. I’ve been making a plan to incorporate some proper exercise into my routine as well as reminding myself to be a bit more active in my day to day life and the MyHealth system has lots of resources to help track that so I’m looking forward to redoing the assessment in a couple of months and reviewing my progress.
