Today – Top 5 biscuits, the definitive list.
Could Kate have picked a topic for which I am any better suited? Surely not. I may have trouble narrowing it down to 5 but I’ll give it a damn good try. I’ll probably have to eat some to ensure I really give you the best. It’s important to be sure after all.
1 Waitrose chocolate chip and hazelnut cookies
For me these win the award for Best Biscuit In The World Ever. They’ve got the perfect ratio of chocolate to biscuit to crunchy nutty bits. A quiet cup of tea and two of these (yes, two, one would be mean) is just heaven. In fact it’s hard not to rant on for ages about just how good they are. Just trust me, you must get some. Mmmmmm.
2 Rich teas
These are my dieting biscuits. You can’t expect people to give up biscuits completely, can you? After trying many of the plainer varieties I have determined these have the best bang for your calorie buck. They are a decent size and perfect for tea dunking without making you feel guilty and requiring some form of *shudder* exercise.
3 Crunch creams
As a general rule I don’t like the fake creamy icing type stuff you get in some biscuits but these are the exception. I’m not quite sure why I like them but I really do. I just have to try not to think about the odd industrial processes that probably have to be used to make them.
4 Dark chocolate digestives
Chocolate Digestives are obviously a classic but I think for the best effect you need to go the whole hog and have dark chocolate ones. Oh, and they have to be McVities. No cheap knock offs or supermarket own brands alternatives for this one.
5 Nice biscuits
I have a bit of a underhand motive for these. As well as being a tasty tea accompaniment these biscuits have the added benefit of repelling Hubs, who hates coconut, meaning they remain unmolested in the cupboard until I’m ready for them without me having to go to elaborate lengths to hide them.
While I recline on the sofa in a shower of biscuit crumbs you can check out everyone else’s favourites over at Kate takes 5. If you liked my top 5 biscuits don’t forget to check out:

Rich Tea biscuits so simple but still so nice!
Oh no! I forgot all about Crunch Creams 🙁
toffee dodgers and fig rolls
Loving 3 4 and 5. Never heard of number 1 and hate number 2 personally.
Interesting list
Oh Crunch Creams *Drools*
Foxes crunch creams made top of my list too, a deserving winner! Never heard of the Waitrose ones, but Rich Tea and Nice biscuits are very yummy. Simple, plain and well, Nice! 🙂
After reading this, I think I need to expand my list to a top ten. My biscuit craving has gone through the roof!
I’ve never had a Crunch Cream, they’re now on my order for this week. Your number one are so good aren’t they! So totally moreish though, I can never stop at one or two, have to eat them in batches of at least four 🙂
I enjoy the odd rich tea too!
The Nice biscuit is not a bad one but does a cookie count as a biscuit? Surely a whole other class of sweet things? 🙂
Hm…nothing compares with the rich tea biscuits dunked in hot tea! Yummy!
I love once when you said “it keeps me in biscuits!”. It’s stuck with me ever since and I now try to think in biscuits too :). Nice biscuits remind me of my gran!
Nice biscuits are an odd one. They are fantastic yet utterly unspectacular. I reckon that Kellogs advert where people said they had forgotten how good they taste would work well for Nice biccies.
I swear they have been around for centuries as well. I always get a nostalgic feel of the good old days whenever I see them. I can almost smell Queen Victoria each time I open a packet.
don’t be too hard on yourself for missing out Jaffa cakes – sticking to 5 biscuits was just too tricky! I had to miss out Nice biscuits which was a hard decision…
I used to eat Rich Teas spread with butter. As a treat. When we were little. We called them ‘biscuit sandwiches’. Yes, we were poor. *shakes head sadly*
I could happily have that list as mine – lovely.
(We also put butter on our Rich Teas)
NOM NOM NOM and I am pleased to see not a single ‘fake biscuit’ in there *ahem teacakes* 😉
Wot no Bourbon Biscuits?
