Right, I’m not feeling very enthusiastic about this week’s promise but I must bite the bullet and get on with it. I’m expecting you lot to hold me to this one, ok?
This week baby I promise… that I will go and find out about swimming times for you and your brother now the swimming pool has reopened.
I have serious Mummy guilt that in my nearly four years of being a mum I have taken the boys swimming precisely once. I can swim, in fact I quite enjoy it, but the idea of wet slippery toddlers on wet slippery floors and trying to wrangle us all into and out of swimming costumes just spells potential near death experience to me. Having said that, so does E falling into the canal and not knowing how to swim so I really need to get over it.

I know what you mean. I love going swimming with W but I HATE the changing bit. Don’t envy you this one especially with two. Good luck x
Thanks chicken. These are the things people should warn you about when you have a second baby!
Agreed. Changing rooms, wet floors, little people, winter… not sounding like fun. But, you will be doing a good thing.
Yep, parenting is all about the sacrifice.
I totally agree, toddlers, wet floors-nah. I’ll pass thanks! Great post! x
Thanks, I’m glad people agree. I don’t feel so guilty now.
Not taking my children swimming is one of my biggest guilts, I hate swimming and I especially hate changing rooms. Children should learn to swim (I didn’t, at least not well) but it’s no good me taking them as I’m just too anxious. My eldest son eventually learnt to swim when he was about 9 and did an intensive swimming course during the school holidays.
E will start having lessons at school in September but he’s quite nervous of trying new things so I want him to have done it before then or he’s likely to just dig his heels in and refuse.
I always feel guilty about this too, its a lot easier in the summer less layers to mess around with in the changing room. I did a course last summer with my little boy as i did fall in a pool as a toddler and still have a fear of water so i understand how important learning early. I love this meme such a lovely idea. xx
I’ve been weighing up better weather in the summer with the fact that it will be much busier. Not sure which is better.
Indeed I am not the biggest fan of swimming which is why I scrimp and save for the boys to have lessons. I take A to a mother and baby swimming class which I enjoy until we have to go out and she screams for ten minutes because she is so cold. Have you looked at private pools? It is more expensive but can be a smaller, safer environment!
I hadn’t thought of that. I wonder if there’s one round here.
I love swimming. I hate getting changed at the end – with or without kids. It also means I have to shave. Oops! Still, legs defuzzed, I went swimming with a 4 year old, a 1 year old and my husband yesterday. It was great! I genuinely do recommend it – even though the changing rooms from start to finish were a disaster and I almost went home without making it to the pool.
Oh yes! Hate going swimming with the kids. Dont mind taking them, just don’t want to get in with them yeuch!
