We’ve had a week of summer holidays so far and thanks to the fab weather it has been mainly spent in the paddling pool but I think it’s about time to get together a bit of a plan for the rest of the break. I’ve seen lots of very impressive lists of summer activities for kids or families but I think they might be a bit ambitious given that I’ll be working some of the time so I have come up with my own system to help us get a bit of everything done in the time we’ve got. I’m calling it my 5×5 plan.
I’m still finalising some of my lists but so far… this summer I’m going to try and achieve all of these:
5 Places we want to go
- Think Tank, Birmingham – E loves these sorts of interactive places so I think this will go down very well
- Camping – Not sure where but the boys have never spent a night in a tent so it’s a big one for the to do list
- Cinema for the new Smurfs film – E was obsessed with the first Smurf film and is very excited to see adverts for the new one (one for Hubs I think!)
- The Beach – Any beach, don’t care where but I want a bucket and spade day
- Hanbury Hall – This is a great NT property not far from us with a fab playground and lovely garden
5 Things we want to do
- Pick our fruit and veg – This year we’ve not grown much but we do have some courgettes and loganberries as well as a bountiful looking crop of apples
- Make a fort in the living room – Just because we’ve never done it before
- Sort the spare room – Ok, this one isn’t much fun but we need to change the spare room from a junk room to a sort of bedroom office combo
- More exercise – I’m planning to do the Race for Life again in October and at the moment I could run 50 yards let alone 5k
- Rowing on the Avon – We did this every year when I was little but I haven’t taken the kids on the river since we moved back to Stratford. Fingers crossed no one falls in!
5 People we want to see
- Mum of One’s new baby – You may have spotted Jenny from Mum of One has just had a beautiful new baby and I can’t wait to get down to see her once my current job finishes in August
- My brother and sister – No one makes me laugh so much
- Lovely fellow bloggers – We mostly chat from behind our keyboards so it’s great to have the chance to get to see my blogging pals in real life

5 Books we want to read
- Dinosaurs –
- Charlie stinky socks

5 Things we want to make
- Egg box craft – I have a few empty egg boxes hanging around in the kitchen just waiting for a bit of imagination
- Home made ice lollies – I pick up some lolly molds recently and am thinking up all sorts of things to make them out of
- Tasty lamb burgers – The boys can help to make these and then get stuck into them straight from the barbecue
- Crocheting – I taught myself to crochet two weeks ago and am now determined to make something vaguely recognisable
